SC gives 2 hours for crackers this Diwali
The SC ruling came on Tuesday giving people 8 to 10 pm deadline to burst crackers on Diwali

Every year the country faces a significant problem of air pollution which is heightened during Diwali. This year to counter that, the Supreme Court has given out a ruling according to which residents are allowed to burst crackers in the time frame between 8 and 10 pm on the day of Diwali. They are also encouraged to buy only ‘green crackers’ which cause lesser harm to the environment.

The ruling given out by Justice AK Sikri and Justice Ashok Bhushan also impose restrictions on the chemicals used to make crackers as part of a 2015 plea.

The ruling also laid down guidelines which said that it is encouraged to use community areas for bursting and showcasing of crackers. Any violation beyond the permitted time limit will result in the contempt of court, and the Station House Officer of that particular area will be held responsible personally.

Furthermore, November 11 was fixed as the date to hear any arguments regarding the ruling as the firecracker manufacturers are likely to file a petition for the review.
