7 Tips On How to treat Maskne - Acne caused by face masks

Are you annoyed and wondering how to treat mask acne? During the COVID-19 pandemic, masks are shielding us from the virus. However, wearing a mask for long hours is leading to skin irritations and breakouts. This issue has become so prevalent that the term “Maskne” has been formed to describe it.

Masks trap moisture, sweat, oil, and dirt close to our skin. When we touch our masks to adjust them we leave dirt and other irritants behind. This creates skin problems like pimples, acne, rashes, etc. Even breathing into these masks adds moisture which changes the natural PH level of our skin. This results in the growth of bacteria that in turn creates acne, inflamed hair follicles, and rosacea flare-ups.

Take Care Of Your Mask

#1 Wash your mask thoroughly! You can also use multiple masks in rotation.

#2 Consider the type of face masks you use. Make sure the mask is good enough to guard you against the coronavirus as well as smooth enough to sit on your skin without irritations. N95 masks are advisable.

#3 You can extend the straps of your mask to wear it loosely around your face. This will ensure free-breathing and prevent moisture or dirt from stacking up on your face.

Take Care Of Your Skin

#4 Try not to touch your face. This will minimize the dirt from travelling to your face and also keep you from the coronavirus.

#5 Wash your face with a cleanser containing 2% to 5% benzoyl peroxide. Any higher concentrations than these can irritate the skin.

#6 Use an antibacterial product based on your skin type on a regular basis.

#7 Try not to pick at the acne as it will only increase the quantity or leave acne marks on your face.
