The movie is about the bonding in an undersea kelp forest to the human-octopus. In the Academy Awards, it won the top documentary prize.



In the 93rd Academy Awards, My Octopus Teacher has won the best documentary Oscar award in Los Angeles. The movie is a Netflix original directed by Pippa Ehrlich and Craig Foster. It has also won a string of festival and critics awards along with taking two more documentary awards such as the Bafta and Producers Guild awards. 

The associate producer and production manager of the movie are Swati Thiyagaranjan, an Indian filmmaker. The Award event was done under the shadow of the pandemic with social distancing. After winning the Oscar, Swati Thiyagaranjan tweeted that '' We won!!! Best documentary feature Oscar!!!,”. “Born Wild: Journey into the Wild Hearts of India and Africa”, is also written by Swati Thiyagranjan. 

The movie is all about the tale of an eight-limbed creature and her human companion. The competition of My Octopus Teacher was against The Mole Agent, Collective, Crip Camp, and Time. The ceremony of Oscars was held on 25th April 2021 during a glitzy event to announce the winners. It was scheduled two months before but owing to the COVID-19 pandemic it got delayed. This is a great achievement for South Africa. It now comes under the top 10 movies of Netflix in the US, South Africa, etc. 

Craig Foster enjoyed and decided to take in the movie rather than filming the wildlife. He was not familiar with ab Octopus but later Octopus became his best friend. It became the best thing for Foster by which they were coming close to the environment.
