GRAP applies in Delhi from today, here's all you need to know about it
Taking into consideration the poor air quality in Delhi the government has implemented a new measure to control air pollution

Delhi has been struggling with the poor quality of air from a long time now. While the problem is persistent, the government has launched a scheme called the Graded Response Action Plan also called the GRAP under which air quality will be judged, and relative measures to control its deterioration will be implemented.

According to the plan, there has been a ban on open garbage burning, deploying traffic police at various points to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic and mechanized sweeping of roads.

Currently, the quality of air in Delhi is ‘poor,’ so the measures adopted are moderate and if the air quality reaches ‘very poor’ then more severe measures will be imparted. These include a ban on construction activities, roll out of the odd-even scheme and hike in parking fees.

If it further reaches ‘severe’ level then measures like increasing frequency of mechanized road cleaning, identifying roads with high dust generation and sprinkling water on roads will be done.

If the conditions do not get better, then the entry of trucks will be banned in Delhi, and a task force will be appointed to take further decisions.
