CERN Research gives hint of Leptoquark

Until now, Leptoquark was hypothetical, but now a possible existence of the sub-atomic particle is being hinted at. It has resulted in an incredible difference within quarks decay to create electrons or muons. It was measured by CERN Physicists working on LHC. They have found the difference to violate the principle of “lepton universality”.

During the experiment, when high energy protons are smashed together at the LHC, large numbers of exotic particles are created, including some containing the beauty quark.

The measurement in the LHC experiment has been made at a vast statistical significance of 3.1σ. This is well below the 5σ level, which was supposed to be the output. If this violation is confirmed, it could provide physicists with a new area of study. Further, it has essential clues about physics beyond the Standard Model with many speculations– one of which is the existence of leptoquarks.

Physicists Nicola Serra said, “it is too early to conclude. However, this deviation agrees with a pattern of anomalies that have manifested themselves over the last decade. Fortunately, the LHCb collaboration is well placed to clarify the potential existence of new physics effects in these decays. We need many more related measurements in the future.”
