Supreme Court will decide hearing date for the Ayodhya Land Case only in January

Supreme Court bench comprising of three judges posted on Monday that hearing for the Ayodhya Land Case will be done in the first week of January. This was said by a bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S.K. Kaul and K.M. Joseph.

This has come as a major shock to the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders who were wishing for a speedy hearing of this case. The Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said, “We will fix the date of hearing of Ayodhya dispute case before the appropriate bench in January."

Uttar Pradesh deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya reflected on this decision. He said, “I don’t want to comment since it’s the decision of Supreme Court. However, the adjournment of hearing doesn’t send a good message."

On Sept 27 this year, the Supreme court had refused to assign to a 5-judge constitution bench the issue of reconsideration of the observations in its 1994 judgment that a mosque was not integral to Islam.

A decision was made by the three-judge high court bench. With a 2:1 majority, the court had ordered that the 2.77 acres of land should be partitioned equally among the three parties, the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
