India has a rich history of labour movement especially during the reign of British. It was highly recommended that a museum showcase this valuable history to the new generation to learn from the past.

Alappuzha in Kerala will house the country's first Labour Movement Museum. It will also showcase the world history of the labour movement. Alappuzha is known as the cradle of the labour movement in the country. The museum will be a storehouse of a huge collection of documents, and it will exhibit the key events that impacted handcrafted the labour movements across the world.

The Labour Movement Museum will be situated alongside the Port and Coir museums. This will be beneficial from a tourism point of view. The place will display all the three aspects of Alappuzha, the town's rich maritime heritage along with its historical importance.

The tourism department of Kerala said that "The NewModel Cooperative Society Limited, previously run by the Bombay Company, has been converted into the Labour Movement Museum. It will portray, through pictures, documents and other exhibits, the growth of the world labour movement and the history of India's labour movement. Besides its unsurpassed natural beauty, Alappuzha has a rich commercial and maritime heritage dating back to ancient times and connected to distant lands."

The museum will be open as soon as the restoration process is completed. Benny Kuriakose, the well-known conservation architect, is leading the restoration works.

Alappuzha is known for its coir worldwide. The demand for coconut husk and the coir has given this place almost a virtual glory to it. The addition of this third museum is going to add to the glory of this already beautiful town.
