In a significant development, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and son of Union Minister Narayan Rane, Nilesh Rane, announced on Tuesday that he is stepping away from active politics. This decision came as a surprise to many political observers and party members alike.
"I am stepping aside from active politics and I don't feel like working in the current political environment," said Nilesh in a statement. He, however, did not elaborate on the reasons behind his decision.
Nilesh Rane, who was the former Member of Parliament from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency in Maharashtra, has been associated with the BJP for several years. His move comes amid rising political tensions within the party and the state.
"Nilesh's decision to step away from active politics is a personal one. He has been a valued member of our party and his services will be missed," a senior BJP leader said on condition of anonymity.
Political analysts suggest that Nilesh's decision could lead to a reshuffling within the BJP's Maharashtra unit. However, it remains to be seen how his departure will impact the party's prospects in the state.
It is worth noting that Nilesh has had a turbulent relationship with the party leadership in the past. He has openly criticised the party's policies and leaders on multiple occasions, leading to speculation about his future within the party.
Despite his exit from active politics, Nilesh Rane stated that he will continue to work for the welfare of the people in his capacity as a private citizen.
