Recently, Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and MSME launched the new paint. You must be wondering what is so unique in this paint? The answer is that this paint is eco-friendly and that this paint is made from cow dung! Yes, a feat only possible in incredible India. 

The paint was developed by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission. It was developed at the residence of the Minister. It is called as ‘Khadi Prakritik Paint'. No such paint has ever been made before. Apart from being eco-friendly the paint is also non-toxic and has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. Its primary ingredient is actual cow dung. This makes the paint cost-effective and odourless. Since ancient times, coating walls and floors with cow dung had been a tradition in India. However, it is long lost now. This paint can refurbish the tradition in a new way. It has also gained the certification of the Bureau of Indian Standards.

This paint is available in varieties of distemper and plastic emulsion as well. The prices of these paint start from The paint is priced at distemper for Rs 120 per litre and for emulsion Rs 225 per litre. This makes them economical too. National Test House, Mumbai; National Test House, Ghaziabad and  Shri Ram Institute for Industrial Research, New Delhi have tested this paint and qualified it as safe. The tests had reported satisfactorily in the thinning properties, drying properties etc. The paint is available in the base white coat to be used both internally and externally. Colour pigments can be added for colour. 

The cow is considered as a holy animal in India with its waste being of utmost importance. Cow dung incense sticks, cow dung soap, and disinfectant are some of the products of cow dung that are already in the market. 

Especially during the pandemic, these antimicrobial and antifungal products are important.
