The Indian National Congress launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, criticising his noticeable absence from Manipur amidst an escalating crisis.
According to Congress representatives, the Prime Minister's complete lack of attention to the volatile situation in Manipur since the outbreak of violence in May this year, is indicative of his evasion of responsibility.
"The Prime Minister cannot escape accountability by completely ignoring the Manipur crisis. It's as if he has abandoned the state at a time when his leadership is most needed," expressed a Congress spokesperson during a press conference.
Manipur has been grappling with a surge in violence since May 2021, leading to a state-wide socio-political crisis. The Congress party has been persistent in its criticism of the BJP-led central government for its perceived inaction and lackadaisical approach to the Manipur crisis.
Month | Incidents | Casualties |
---|---|---|
May | Begin of violence | Reports of casualties |
June - Present | Escalating violence | Increasing number of casualties |
The Congress has been demanding that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister visit the state to assess the situation, formulate an effective strategy, and allocate appropriate resources for peace restoration.
"Patience is running thin among the people of Manipur. The government needs to act swiftly and decisively", warned a senior Congress leader.
Political analysts have also voiced their concerns about the political vacuum created by the Prime Minister's lack of engagement with the Manipur crisis.
"This crisis requires urgent attention and resolution at the highest level. The central government seems to be missing the gravity of the situation," remarked a noted political analyst.
As the crisis continues to spiral, the people of Manipur await a proactive response from the central government and the Prime Minister. The Congress party, on the other hand, continues to stress the need for swift action and direct intervention.
