India has firmly dismissed Pakistan's attempt to reference the Kashmir issue during a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on the Israel-Gaza conflict. India's permanent representative to the United Nations, T.S. Tirumurti, conveyed India's stance in a tweet.
"Pakistan has a habit of dragging India into its statements. They have made an attempt to bring in the bilateral issue of Kashmir into a discussion on the Israel-Gaza conflict. We ignore it with the contempt it deserves," Tirumurti wrote in his tweet.
The UNSC meeting was held to discuss the escalating conflict between Israel and Palestine, which has resulted in the loss of many lives and caused widespread destruction. Pakistan's representative, Munir Akram, however, attempted to shift the focus to the Kashmir issue during his address. This move was seen as an inappropriate diversion from the topic of the meeting by India.
India has consistently maintained that the Kashmir issue is a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan, and it should not be brought up at multilateral forums like the United Nations. India's stance has been supported by several other countries, including the United States and France.
Despite Pakistan's repeated attempts to internationalize the Kashmir issue, the international community has largely upheld India's view. This is evident from the fact that the UNSC has not held a formal meeting on the Kashmir issue for more than half a century.
On the Israel-Gaza conflict, India has expressed deep concern over the violence and loss of lives. It has urged both sides to exercise extreme restraint and to initiate direct talks to ensure the safety and security of civilians.
India has also expressed its readiness to provide humanitarian assistance to the people affected by the conflict. "India has always been and will continue to be a steadfast supporter of the Palestinian cause. We will do whatever we can to provide relief to the affected people," said Tirumurti.
India's response to Pakistan's reference to Kashmir at the UNSC meeting reiterates its strong commitment to its foreign policy principles and its longstanding position on the Kashmir issue.
