In a significant turn of events, Israel has reportedly intensified its 'lethal attack' on Hamas in response to the incessant rocket strikes from Gaza. Meanwhile, China has voiced its support for Israel's right to self-defence, marking a new chapter in the ongoing conflict.

Israel's Escalating Offensive

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have ramped up their counter-offensive, aiming to neutralise the threat posed by Hamas. IDF spokesperson, Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, stated that the strikes are targeted at Hamas’ infrastructure, including its vast network of underground tunnels, dubbed the "Metro".

"Our aim is to hit Hamas hard, minimise its capabilities and, as always, do our utmost to avoid civilian casualties," said Conricus.

In response to the relentless rocket attacks, the international community has called for an immediate ceasefire. However, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said Israel will do whatever it takes to restore peace and security.

China's Stance on the Conflict

In a surprising move, China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has backed Israel's self-defence bid. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Zhao Lijian, announced that China recognises Israel's right to self-defence as per international law, but also urged Israel to avoid causing civilian casualties.

"While we recognise Israel's right to self-defence, we call for the protection of civilians and critical infrastructure," said Zhao.

Humanitarian Aid for Civilians

As the conflict escalates, the West has called for a 'continuous flow' of aid for civilians caught in the crossfire. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported that over 30,000 Palestinians have been displaced and are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.

The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, urging all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise the safety of civilians.
