In a recent revelation, the Trinamool Congress MP, Mahua Moitra, has claimed that she was offered a bribe by Adani Group to withhold questions in parliament. In an interview with 'The Telegraph', she termed the allegations against her as a 'hit job' and maintained her stance of refusing any such offers from the corporate giant.
Moitra stated,
"As an MP, I am entitled to use all means to seek information to ask questions, and utilise any information given to me to ask questions."She added that the allegations against her were intended to tarnish her image and distract from the important issues she raises in the parliament.
These allegations come in the wake of a recent controversy where a US-based portal called 'The Morning Context' reportedly claimed that Moitra had been paid by Adani Group for not raising certain issues in the parliament. The Adani Group, however, has categorically denied these allegations.
The Adani Group spokesperson said,
"We categorically deny any such allegation. They are totally baseless and without any merit."The spokesperson further added that their business operations are in compliance with the law and they maintain the highest standards of corporate governance.
Moitra, a vocal critic of the central government, has been known for her fiery speeches in the parliament. She has consistently raised questions on various issues related to governance, economy, and social justice. Her alleged involvement in this controversy has sparked a heated debate in the political circles.
While the truth behind these allegations remains to be seen, this incident has once again brought to the fore the issue of alleged corporate influence on the Indian political system. It underscores the need for transparency and accountability in the functioning of our democratic institutions.
As this story unfolds, the Indian public eagerly awaits the truth behind these allegations, which if proven, could have serious implications on the credibility of our democratic institutions.
