Shirdi bandh for Sunday
Shirdi bandh for Sunday
"The chief minister Uddhav Thackeray should withdraw his statement that Pathri was Sai baba's birthplace," says Bharatiya Janata Party Leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil

Political interference in religion again sparked a major controversy. Shirdi bandh was announced for Sunday, 19 January 2020 after the controversial statement of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray. After Uddhav Thackeray claimed Pathri of Parbhani district to be the “Sai Janmsthali” the birthplace of holy saint Sai Baba, the temple authorities and sai bhakts called Shirdi bandh for Sunday. All the shops, hotels, and other public facilities were called off.

The controversial statement of Uddhav Thackeray states that the government has plans to grant Rs 100 crore for the development of the birthplace of Sai Baba, Pathri.

The locals and the leaders of Shirdi state that they will not call off the bandh until Uddhav Thackeray takes back his statement. "Pathri only has one of several Sai temples in the country. All Sai devotees are feeling hurt,"  said the former state minister.
